Abdullah Gül University

AGU was established on 21 July 2010 as the first instance of the model of foundation-supported state university in Turkey. The University is the transformation project of the Sumerbank Cloth Factory, one of the first and largest industrial campuses of the Republic of Turkey, into an education campus. It received its first students in the 2013-2014 academic year. The construction of the Mimar Sinan Campus, the second campus of the university, continues. Efforts to establish a new state university in Kayseri were initiated in 2007 by the opinion leaders of Kayseri who came together with the initiative of the Metropolitan Municipality. In accordance with the vision of Kayseri, which has been shown as a good example in Turkey with its development and entrepreneurship, the University aimed to highlight Kayseri also in education, and it was thought to bear the name of Turkey’s 11th President, Mr. Abdullah Gül. The President deemed this proposal appropriate, provided that this university is a quality university that will make a difference in Turkey’s higher education and can compete in the international arena.

AGU Support Foundation (AGUV) is one of the most important elements that have created a new model for AGU, which is aimed to be an institution conducting education and research at international level. AGUV was established on 13 July 2011 and started its studies to provide effective support in parallel with the development of the university.
